I don't drink though. I've been increasing my
miles as well ie to a weekly average of 40 a week for a year. I've got some 60s in as well

Re: Life with Two

Only buying for the kids is such a good idea! As families grow and siblings marry, the gift buying (and giving) is getting overwhelming! And I think after this half (I'll be ~8 months postpartum), I'm gonna take a break from races until I start weaning at least a little bit. I don't mind nursing once or twice a day and training hard, but when I'm the main source of nutrition, it's so exhausting!!

Re: Life with Two

I so relate to the all hands on deck feeling all the time with multiple kids. It’s just a lot harder to get down time. My trick for handling holiday season is just only doing the fun stuff. Breakfast with Santa? Yup. Shopping for adults? Nah. My family agreed to only do kid gifts and it’s made life so much easier.

I did a half when my middle kid was 5 months...HOW? So much pumping in order to train. He did sleep, so I guess that helped. I decided I’m not doing any more races in the thick of breastfeeding though. It’s just too much. I did a ten miler when my oldest was I think 9 months and that was a lot more reasonable. My recover/return to exercise this time has just been tougher though. I doubt it will happen until we wean but I’m really fine with that.

This was such a well written and relatable post! The stuff about the change in adjusting to motherhood and how it’s easier with the second- dead on.

Re: Life with Two

Hooray!! I know it sounds like a really long time from now, but it will get easier after 6 months. I’m just trying to make it until then. Thank you for reading!! I am four weeks postpartum with #1 and your comments about what breastfeeding does to your bodily autonomy really hit home with me -- I'd been looking forward to not being pregnant and had totally not anticipated what breastfeeding would be like. For me the breastfeeding (and the concomitant newborn care, of course...) has been 100x more taxing on my body. It's so nice to hear that I'm not alone. You are an amazing mom, runner, AND writer, and I hope you'll keep posting!! --Kate

Re: Life with Two

This comment made me cry - thank you!! Teddy has been bringing home so many colds - I try to keep them apart, but E has already had so many sniffles this year. :/ I think having done it before definitely helps you realize that everything is just a stage (both the good and bad!). Thanks for reading! <3

Re: Life with Two

I love this. Obviously. And I love you and you're an amazing mom.

Also NEW JERSEY HALF!!! I really want to run it, too! Not sure how feasible that will be, but really hoping to be there in which case WAIT FOR ME AT THE FINISH! For like...a while. But seriously, I so appreciate you and all you're willing to share (and all my questions you're willing to answer...every day...) and your perspective. It's refreshing to see that everyone struggles with *something* at some point, and that we all make it work. You inspire me. We just had our second kiddo, and while yes, we know how to take care of our baby, logistically taking care of two kids is SO HARD. Our oldest one keeps getting sick too, which has made it really challenging and exhausting for us (I basically stay in quarantine with the newborn while my husband is with our 3 year old). No free time for anyone!

It does help to know how quickly this will pass, but we are definitely in the trenches. Sending you luck and sleep and some time to yourself! xoxo

Re: Evelyn Nancy

Thank you!! It seems we're in a similar boat - I'm almost 10 years into my blog (how did that happen? And actually, I think yours was one of the first I started reading when I got into it) and only write every so often now. Even if it's just for me to capture a little bit of life so I can come back to it when I forget years from now, that's fine!

Congrats on your marathon run, another BQ (even if you're not going to run it), and your baby on the way!

Re: Full Circle

Thank you for being such a long time reader!! :)

Re: Full Circle

Congrats on your pregnancy! I was also excited to see this post pop up as I have checked your blog every few weeks to see if there was anything new. Just so you know that you still have readers you’ve never met ;-) I found your blog a few years ago and followed along all through your first pregnancy (my daughter is just a few months younger than Teddy). Congratulations on the awesome marathon and on baby #2! We’re hoping for a sibling sometime soon too, but I think I'm going to need to cut back on BFing and/or running in order to make it happen (so it was exciting to hear you guys got a surprise!) Anyways, I hope all goes well with the rest of your pregnancy--and thanks for continuing to share your journey :)

Re: Better than a clif bar

How long do these last? But actually it probably isn't, especially when not only are you keeping your baby hydrated, but also yourself (we forget about that one don't we 😜)and on top of that even more to account for the sweaty running 😆 I might not drink the whole glass but just making a habit of having it there in front of me encourages me to drink most of it. You're doing brilliant by the way - I'm only just starting to feel normal 7 months pp. Mileage just about in double figures haha, and attempted a couple of track sessions so getting there! 😊
